[drafted for last thursday’s LMT but did not get around to post it. yes, this conversation from last week is going to be my speech on her wedding day]
………………………………………………………….
‘mama, what if I have no dad to get married?’ (she meant husband )
‘mole, you will get one, don’t worry’
‘oh mama, I think I should look for ‘dad for Sale’ board”( again meant husband here)-this reminds me of matrimonial ads in Indian newspaper/matrimonial sites.
.“mama, how did you find dada?”
“mole, you don’t have to worry about finding husband now. You have lots of time. First you study well, go to university and start working. Mama and dada found each other when we were working after we finished all our studies”
‘did you go for a walk and find dada?”
Struggling to answer “no mole, we emailed each other”
“After emailing, did you decide to marry dada and lived happily ever after?”
“yeah, we liked each other and we decided to get married”
“so I will get emails when I start working?”.
“you will meet someone mole. Don’t worry now”
She is not leaving me…”mama, what if I get so many emails and I have to choose?”
Silence..I have no convincing answer right away. Pause ..pause..
“mama, I know I know what to do..I will do eeni meeni miney mo and whoever get first I will marry”.
Problem solved..sigh!! this is what I get for encouraging them to solve their problems by themselves..!
Where is the well? so I can jump into the deep never to return!(on second thoughts, I will stay to give the speech)

Me: “ come eat lunch molu. Your brain needs healthy food to make you smart. You need to eat on time molu. come have appam and curry. How do you learn new things in JK if your brain does not get food on time? “

This happened last Sunday lunch time, me trying to talk her into eating her lunch. She is busy cutting and coloring. Son already started and I want to move on to other ‘to do list’ after lunch.

Molu replied, still cutting shapes “mama, I am not going to the University, only starting JK mama” and continued cutting.
Should I cry at my failed attempt or LOL at this gem!!

……………………………..
Today my molu stepped into her JK class for the first time with me; her orientation day to get familiar with the classroom and the teacher. She just could not wait for this day and her scheduled time. So very excited. Molu, mama was super excited too[ saw dada sneaking in extra special kisses as well,as you were saying bye this morning].

As you start this exciting and fulfilling journey, all mamma wants to say is keep your eyes open, heart open, work hard, help others, study well and always keep your wits. You have no idea how much mama loves you (what was the last number that we invented the other day? that plus 2million, that much). Enjoy this journey, there is no other fun like in school days.

You also started your Music class today. Though the class was in the evening, you were so alert and enjoying. Good, we need this much energy every Thursday evening, ok.

Today is auspicious day for our family. It is the feast of Holy Mother Mary, our family patron saint specially mama’s patron. I am sure you have guaranteed blessings from Her whole life molu. How nice, when you and brother sang Happy Birthday to Her in the church today!.

You know, this year your cousin exited school system for university and you entered the school system. And guess what, her first class was today too. How much you both look alike I don’t have to even start on that.

Mole, you too explore the wide open spaces…God bless you molu, always. ( mama is not borrowing any song to link here, because none of them compare to those million songs I have made for you and you made for me..we’ll continue to make up our own songs…)

Things are almost packed, photos printed to personalize the room with her loved ones..she is set..all set to go away to university this Saturday.

The little girl once crawling on the floor in that baby pink layered frock is now an amazing young lady- gentle, modest, smart ( yeah, runs the family ),intelligent, caring and much more.

As much as I looked forward to this exciting day, feeling bit sad totally surprised me. You are not even going that far. I came to realize – though we did not speak regularly or met, the fact that I know your schedule and I can talk to you when I want; and that was bothering me.

I have told you this many times, but again, do you know how much I learnt from you and keep learning from you. I look up to you for many things. I wish I had your confidence (not to mention that silky and straight hair). Thank you my lovely niece.

I will continue to count on you for those baked goodies whenever you come home.

You know your mom is very proud of you..very very proud. With all the hardships both have gone through( some you understood, some you were too small to know), you emerged even stronger. You know that you have blessings coming from heaven, right?.

Go dear, spread your wings and fly, conquer the mountains( literally- mountains are part of environmental studies). Prayers, blessings and best wishes from the whole family.
I’ve picked this song for you by Dixie Chicks, hope you enjoy

(note: drafted this last week. Her orientation days so far in the uty have been fabulous. Freshers are jamican dancing to bhangra beats while eating italian goodies..lot of oppotunities to mingle, jingle and learn. she is happy there)

With 4-3 win for blue team, 2011 soccer season is over today. Son scored one of them.
This is the first year son played for House league. He loves soccer..just loves it. They played every Thursday evenings.
There were so many little moments to cherish… The excitement the day we went to pick the ball and jersey, Coach telling only thing to keep in mind is please have fun, not pick dandelions in the field. How much you wanted to sleep with the jersey on that nite( “mama, can I wear it for 1 hour mama, will change into PJs before sleep”, you begged and I gave in). The disappointment when the much anticipated first game was cancelled on May19th due to rain, thrill on the first game with a win. You looked forward to be goalie for atleast one half of the game, with the rotational position assignments. Coach once emailed me that you are one of the most hardworking kids in the team (mama, reads it even now..with a Kleenex near me). Kutta, I only missed only one game when I was out of town for work, I looked forward to Thursday evenings as much as you. We cheered for your team shamelessly- enjoyed thoroughly. Our snack day was fun in planning what is best/healthy snack to take for the team for half time. Interestingly you always wanted penne pasta for lunch on Thursdays as you read in soccer book series that players normally eat a healthy high carb food before the game. I could not contain my joy when you were short listed for try outs, although that meant additional practice on Mondays in August. This was one of the best moments- when the other team got a corner you bring the ball, keep it position all set for other team to kick as you run to take your position.
Initially, you were little down when you gave up goal and your team lost. But one day when the team lost, your sister was very sad and disappointed. I then listened to your conversation with her on our way back in the car…’in a game only one team can win ..loosing does not mean we are not good but we need to play better as a team next Thursday and that is what good sports people do etc etc’. Although very tired, you were so patient with her in explaining and was very caring. With that conversation you scored the best goal in mama’s mind.
There were some scary moments- the one save you did although the ball hit you hard right on your face, one of the other team kid’s mother behaved bad.
We had a great season, had so much fun. As we look forward to the try outs, “it is okay whether you make it or not’( not me, you said that). Love you tons and thanks for all the love you have…keep the sparkle in your eyes, build on that caring nature, keep that gentle heart, love that competitive spirit, and keep the feet moving.
Love you monu .
